Dr. T. Karthikaa – Doctor, Cessna Lifeline Veterinary Hospital, Domlur

M.V. Sc with specialization in Ophthalmology

Dr Karthikaa completed her under-graduation from TNUVAS Namakkal in 2016 and her post-graduation from KVASU Mannuthy in 2019. She joined Cessna Lifeline right after she graduated.

“I always wanted to be an eye surgeon. I was not too aware about the veterinary space, it happened almost accidentally that I came into the veterinary space because of my friends” says Dr. Karthikaa as she fondly recalls her college days. “Initially I was hesitant working with animals but then I got better at it and am happy to be working in this field.”

Dr. Karthikaa started her time with Cessna Lifeline working in the OPD for a few months and then moved into the IPD, parvo unit. “Working at Parvo unit taught me a lot and I was able to standardize many protocols. We started seeing survival rates go up from 50% to almost 70% in parvo cases”. Since then, she has shuttled her time between IPD and OPD and CT scans, especially looking into ophthalmic cases since that is her specialization and area of interest.

“When I was studying, I did not have much knowledge with regards to the veterinary field. It was only after I joined Cessna Lifeline that I realized how advanced the field is. So many procedures are done for animals which I thought were only done for humans. The medical technology is also so advanced for animal care” says Dr. Karthikaa on her experience being a veterinarian.

Dr. Karthikaa says she would like to learn more in the emergency and critical care field soon. And as she talks about these plans you can hear a wonderful excitement in her voice.

Her hobbies are playing badminton and listening to music. She also likes watching cooking channels and loves to cook, mainly South Indian food.
