Dr. Mehla – Senior doctor, Cessna Lifeline Veterinary Hospital, Gurgaon
M.V.Sc with a specialization in small animal cardiology and dermatology.
With a Bachelor's and Master's from Hisar Haryana, Dr. Mehla interestingly prepared for civil services during his post-grad for IAS and IFS. He was even selected for Haryana Civil Services in 2004, but to follow his passion for animal sciences, he joined Haryana Veterinary Services. He worked there from 2005 to 2016. He joined Cessna Lifeline later in 2016.
He is known for his expertise in large animal treatment. But in the past 4 years, having joined Cessna Lifeline, small animal ultrasonography, echocardiography, soft tissue surgery, laboratory diagnostics take precedence.
Having spent time in the large animal husbandry sector, Dr. Mehla applauds the government for taking initiatives to improve this sector, including introduction of new techniques and equipment.
“Small animal veterinary practice is growing at 16% in the past 5 years” says Dr. Mehla when asked about small animal veterinary practice in India. “We are being exposed to international standards of practice, which means, there is plenty of opportunity to encourage specializations and prepare our doctors to handle different types of cases. We must also encourage referrals from other doctors which will in turn create a wholesome ecosystem within India.”
During his free time, Dr. Mehla switches on some music - ghazals and old Hindi music to destress and relax. “Guitar is something I hope to learn in the future” he says.
Dr. Mehla loves reading, mainly autobiographies, biographies, self-help books, economics. “My target is to read 12 books in a year.” he says very passionately.
Currently he is reading ‘Guide to Investing’ by Robert T. Kiyosaki and ‘The Intelligent Investor’ by Benjamin Graham. He is also very fond of spiritual books and tries to incorporate the learnings daily in his life.
