Dr. Vimali Gracy – Doctor, Cessna Lifeline Veterinary Hospital, Electronic City
 
Bachelor’s in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry.
 
Dr. Gracy completed her B.V.Sc & A.H from Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary Science, Puducherry, in the year 2002.
 
In 2010, she joined Blue Cross Society of Pune. She worked in the OPD, IPD and surgery units attending to rescue cases in ABC & AR (anti-rabies) program under Pune Municipal Corporation. During her time there, she worked with small and large animals like cattle and horses. “There was a wide exposure to various cases and I enjoyed working there,” she says.
 
She joined Cessna Lifeline in 2017. “I now take care of the OPD and surgery unit at EC branch. I perform procedures like sterilization and basic soft tissue surgeries. I would also like to learn surgeries which are more advanced like laparoscopy and endoscopy.”
 
On veterinary medicine in India, she says “There is more scope for veterinary medicine. Students can pursue more specializations and that is an advantage we are seeing in India currently.”
 
“People are always keen to keep pets. So, there is a sense of satisfaction to work with pet lovers and pet parents. Because of this, veterinary medicine will always thrive."
 
“Access to veterinary medicine and clinics across India is what I would like to see. Awareness building is also required. Awareness about pet adoption, vaccination programs and others. This way, people get to know how to take care of pets and animals around them.” She says about the future of veterinary practice in India.
 
She was a National-level basketball player in school. “I learnt sportsmanship and to never give up."
 
Dr. Gracy likes listening to music and singing. She has also learned to play keyboard and guitar.
 
“My daughter sings as well and I’m happy about that” she says with a smile as we conclude the conversation.
